2010 Germany-based trade convention organisers cut parallel public event

GC Online public events canceled

The 2010 Games Convention Online, the annual online and mobile games event set to take place in the Congress Centrer in Leipzig from July 8 – 10, will not this year feature a public event to run consecutively with its business forum.

“This is a regrettable, but necessary decision,” said the event strategy director Silvana Kuerschner. She explained that the number of registered exhibitors and the planned presentations were not enough to maintain what she believed was the usual high standard of GC Online shows.

“That would neither guarantee the business success of the trade show, nor satisfy the interest of visitors whose past experiences bring them with high expectations to Leipzig,” she added.

Marc Wardenga, chairman of the GCO advisory council and head of games at SevenOne Intermedia regretted the move, but remained positive.

“The GCO is focusing on online gaming and we think that’s right, because online is the growth market for games. We continue to work closely with Leipziger Messe in order to consolidate the GCO as an industry platform”, he said.
