Georgia passes new law providing $25m in tax credits for game developers

The state of Georgia has signed a new tax incentive program for video game makers into law.

Gamasutra reports House Bill 958 provides $25m in tax credits for video game developers within state lines. It was signed into law earlier this week by governor Nathan Deal.

Several notable studios have offices based in Georgia, including Tripwire Interactive, Hi-Rez Studios, and CCP Games – though CCP’s Atlanta studio was just hit with a round of layoffs earlier this week.

The video games industry’s $25m portion is part of a larger package of tax breaks for the state that’s focused around food banks and energy-efficient vendors.
