Google Play has named its Best Games of 2017

Google Play has named its Best Games of 2017.

Super Mario Run was a big winner, topping both the most downloaded new game of the year charts and also the chart for most popular game.

The game released in 2016, but it didn’t emerge on Android until March 2017. Other hits on the chart are Snake VS Block, Bubble Witch 3 Saga, Pokémon Duel and Ballz.

Google Play also had their own separate Game of the Year award that they have awarded to ZeptoLabs’ CATS: Crash Arena Turbo Stars. CATS is a fighting game that has players designing robots to fight one another in backyard battles and the storefront said in their awarding text: "blew us away with its spellbinding gameplay, glossy graphics, and an impressively intuitive interface."

Other award winners included Best Indie for Miracle Merchant, Most Innovative game was After the End: Forsaken Destiny and Best to Pick Up & Play was Cooking Craze – A Fast & Fun Restaurant Chef Game.

It’s going to be a long month of best-of lists, but Google Play is one of the biggest mobile marketplaces, so it’s quite a success for mobile developers who have been mentioned.
