Digital store garners 15 billion downloads in just one year as it gains ground on Apple

Google Play surpasses 25 billion app downloads

The Android Google Play store has garnered more than 25 billion downloads.

The store, a rival to Apple’s own App Store for its iOS devices, is currently home to 675,000 apps and games.

In 2010 Google Play had attracted one billion downloads, with another nine billion garnered by the end of 2011.

This means that in just one year the store has accrued more than 15 billion downloads.

Whilst shy of the 30 billion apps downloaded on Apple’s own App Store, Google Play continues to grow at a rapid pace.

To celebrate the landmark, Google said it would be offering various discounts on games from developers such as Gameloft, EA, Rovio, Runtastic and Full Fat, as well as on movies, books, albums and magazines.
