Grand Theft Auto Online offers microtransactions – rumour

Rockstar may offer gamers the chance to buy in-game currency using real cash in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto Online, it is being suggested.

Kotaku carries word from tipsters on Reddit who claim to have found reference to the functionality in files on Rockstar’s servers that are accessible when attempting to connect to the game’s yet-to-be-activated multiplayer service.

A description of the ‘Red Shark Cash Card’ reads:

Cash is king in this town. Solve your money problems and help get what you want across Los Santos and Blaine County with the purchase of cash packs for Grand Theft Auto Online. All purchased cash is automatically deposited into your character’s bank account. Spend wisely, cash therapy is fleeting.”

Grand Theft Auto Online will go live via what is described as a small download” on Xbox Live and PSN on October 1st.
