GTA V already competing for most popular game on Steam

A day after its PC release, Grand Theft Auto V is vaulting up Steam’s top games by current player count chart.

VG247 points to Steam’s stat page, which currently shows the game peaking at over 300,000 concurrent users today.

That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s sold 300,000 copies in less than 24 hours (though it’s certainly not out of the realm of possibility), as GTA V has been available for pre-order for the past several weeks and Steam allowed users to pre-load the game heading into yesterday’s launch.

Still the game currently sits at third on the player count list, behind Valve staples Counter-Strike Global Offensive and the free-to-play Dota 2. Counter-Strike’s peak so far today comes in at just under 500,000 concurrent players, while Dota has peaked in excess of 750,000.
