NCSoft claims their game is the fastest selling title in genre history

Guild Wars 2 breaks MMO sales records

NCSoft claims its MMORPG Guild Wars 2 is the fastest selling title in the history of the genre.

While it’s not easy to establish a comparison to debate the truth of this claim, the figure provided by the company – 3 million in North America and Europe in the nine months since launch – is definitely impressive.

NCSoft claims that this figure breaks previous records for MMOs, even without the additional users it will certainly pick up when the game launches in China later this year.

Blizzard’s World of Warcraft currently has around 7.5 million subscribers, a figure that has been steadily falling for some time.

The first iteration of the Guild Wars franchise did particularly well in Asia, and the developers of Guild Wars 2 will certainly be hoping for a repeat performance as they seek to challenge Blizzard’s stranglehold on the MMO market.
