Developer hires ex-Somethin' Else exec Mark Sorrell as development director

Hide&Seek opens New York studio

Experimental games developer Hide&Seek is opening a new studio in New York.

The US branch will be headed up by former Hide&Seek development director Margaret Robertson, who will take up the position of director at the new studio.

US commissions are set to be revealed later this month.

“New York has always had a rich gaming culture, so it is a very natural step for us to set up an office there,” said Robertson.

“We are excited about all the new commissions and collaborations we are working on on in the USA as well as in London as Hide&Seek continues to develop across international borders.”

As well as opening a new US office, the developer has also appointed former Somethin’ Else games director Mark Sorrell as its new development director to replace Robertson.

Sorrell has previously worked at a number of companies such as Sky Games, FremantleMedia’s ScreenPop and Quiz TV, whilst also working on projects such as Countdown, Scrabble and Ben 10.

“I’m excited to be joining Hide&Seek as Development Director,” he said.

“What Hide&Seek do so brilliantly is apply game design beyond the confines of the gaming industry and into cultural and public spaces. Building on my work in TV, I’m genuinely excited to be working with a game studio to create all manner of exciting new IPs and projects.”

Hide&Seek is most famous for its games designed for physical play in open spaces, and has worked on projects such as PlayStation Game Runners and Battlefield.
