Intel Developer Blog: Make your app using Intel’s 2014 Software Development Kit for a chance to win

How to win your share of $1,000,000 and change the app world with Intel’s RealSense technology

Want to create an app that intuitively interacts with users? How about winning your share of $1,000,000 while you’re at it?

The Intel RealSense Challenge is offering developers the chance to enter their apps, developed using Intel’s 2014 Software Development Kit (SDK) and the new 3D gesture camera, to be in with a chance to win.

You may have come across Perceptual Computing – you may even have entered Intel’s competition based on it last year. Intel RealSense technology is the next step on from Perceptual Computing. The Intel RealSense Challenge is a great opportunity for developers to discover just what it’s capable of. The new SDK supports Perceptual Computing capabilities, but also provides even more technology, including 3D augmented reality.

For those of you who entered last year’s competition or the Ultimate Coder Challenge, you will receive an invitation-only spot in the competition’s Ambassador Track, where you’ll be able to compete against other past entrants. And for those taking part for the first time, there’s the Pioneer Track, in which you compete against other first-timers.

To get an idea of what’s been done so far, check out the entrants from last year’s Perceptual Computing Competition or for some more inspiration have a look at last year’s winner, who created an app that responds to movements in front of the camera to make different mixes of music.

Intel RealSense does what it says on the tin – it creates an app with real senses. It understands finger, eye, nose and mouth movements and has the ability to interpret sounds, voices and interact with the user. Your mission, should you choose to accept it (by entering), is to find ways of using these capabilities to create something completely innovative that can bring users and their devices into a world of their own. You’ll be challenged to find inventive ways to use RealSense technology on desktops, laptops and tablets – so think outside of the computer box and start exploring!
