How will Scottish independence affect games development?

It is well known that Scottish is a hotbed of games development talent, with the country’s exports ranging from Crackdown to Grand Theft Auto V. But what is unclear is what this September’s Scottish independence referendum will mean for studios in the region.

Every month, Develop magazine runs a Region Focus that takes a closer look at development communities in select regions around the world – and next month, we’ll be focusing on Scotland.

We’ll be talking to Scottish games studios about how they expect the referendum to affect them, as well as the advantages of developing in Scotland and the reasons behind the nation’s rich heritage in video games.

Got something to say on the subject? Send an email to James.Batchelor@intentmedia.co.uk and find out how you can get involved. We’re particularly keen to talk to Scottish studios of all sizes, from indie and start-ups to triple-A console studios.

The Scotland Region Focus will be published in the March issue of Develop, which will have an extra 5,000 copies added to its print run and made available on the show floor at GDC 2014 in San Francisco.
