Facial motion capture solution can now be integrated into internal pipelines

Image Metrics’ tech available to third-parties

Image Metrics is currently preparing a version of its marker-less facial motion capture system that can be used by third parties and integrated into internal production pipelines.

Previously, clients have outsourced the facial animation to Image Metrics, but under the new ‘performance transfer solution’ – currently in beta – ‘select’ studios will be able to incorporate the analysis software into their pipeline themselves – although film industry clients will still be able to outsource the entire process should they so wish, the firm adds.

“In today’s competitive film and visual effects markets, it’s no longer good enough to deliver lifelike animation – studios need to deliver superior CG performances faster and more cost-effectively than ever before,” said Kelvin Duckett, executive vice president of Image Metrics.

“The Image Metrics performance transfer solution gives our film industry clients more creative control over their characters than ever before, while ensuring that the process is cost-effective and as simple to incorporate into their projects as possible. The beta process will help us work closely with customers in real production environments to develop an offering that exactly meets their needs.”

Limited slots are available in the beta, and interested parties are asked to contact the firm for further details.
