Studio lease comes to an end after three years as Phil Fish teases US branch

Indie hit Fez going multi-platform

Hit XBLA isometric platformer Fez is to go multi-platform this year, developer Phil Fish has revealed.

Summing up his year in game development with Polytron, the indie said he had listened to a number of fans asking for the title to be ported to other systems, although he did not reveal which platforms it would be released on.

In May Polytron announced that Fez had been downloaded more than 100,000 times on Xbox 360, averaging more than 2,000 sales a day since its release on April 13th last year.

“2013 is going to be an interesting one, too. For one, Fez will finally be ported to other platforms,” said Fish.

“Yes, I’ve heard you, dozens of people emailing me everyday telling me how much of an idiot i am for not porting Fez to everything."

As well as revealing that Fez would be coming to other platforms, Fish also said he was working on a couple of new games, but that the future for Polytron was still uncertain, although he teased “something about a US branch”.

The studio’s lease on its current Montreal-based office has expired after three years, while in November Fez co-creator Renaud Bédard left to join Sword and Sworcery developer Capybara Games in Toronto.

“The future is uncertain for Polytron,” he said.

“It’s just me now. I could do anything with this company, but I don’t know what yet. There’s a couple of new games in the pipeline, of course. But there’s also an ambition to do so much more. I want to design everything! Maybe not a video game? Maybe something else entirely. I just don’t know. And that’s exciting! I hope you’re excited too.”
