New Zealand firm looks for Flower-like success with social game Flutter

Indie studio Runaway releases first title

Indie New Zealand studio Runaway, founded in 2009, has released it’s first title Flutter. The studio has previously announced it intentions to create social games with an ‘alternative’ twist.

Flutter will be a game in the vein of thatgamecompany’s recent PSN hit Flower , and will allow users to play as a butterfly pollinating flowers in the Amazon rainforest.

Runaway director Tim Nixon has stated the studio’s intention to create titles that provide “meaningful play”.

“We’ve put a lot of time into crafting a world and style that will not only appeal to mass audiences, but give a sense of purpose and meaning to their play through the games attachment to an incredible real world environment that is under a very real threat,” he said.
