December conference to feature £50,000 start-up financing contest

Investment pitches and VC deals at London event

The UK’s army of start-up game studios are set to collide with a fleet of investment groups at an upcoming London technology funding event.

The December conference promises advice and guidance for attending businesses, as well as what event organisers are calling an “unrivalled networking opportunity” by putting VC firms in front of start-ups.

Tech Entrepreneur Week will also host a £50,000 funding competition, where one promising business will be selected for the VC funding.

Luminaries attending include serial investor Martin Warner and Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales.

Wales himself has been chosen as ‘head of jury’ for the funding contest, and will view a number of pitches from an assortment of British tech groups.

“I look forward to participating in the discovery of the next great technology companies, and to the keynote interview with Martin Warner about my experiences as a tech entrepreneur,” Wales said.

Warner, who is Tech Entrepreneur Week’s founder, said he wants the event to help London catch up on Silicon Valley’s leading tech cluster.

“Everyone knows the European tech start-up scene is lagging behind Silicon Valley,” Warner said.

“However, London is beginning to mount a serious challenge to the Valley’s hegemony. Jimmy Wales’s attendance is indicative of how London is increasingly viewed as a great city in which to launch a technology business.

“Tech Entrepreneurs Week is designed to fuel London’s emergence as the European centre of innovation and tech entrepreneurship. In addition to having the opportunity to secure backing from some of the world’s biggest and most successful backers of tech start-ups, those companies attending the week will benefit from an unrivalled networking opportunity.”

The event runs from December 5th to 9th. More details can be found here.
