Japanese publisher Marvelous opens UK studio

Japanese publisher Marvelous AQL has opened a new UK studio to head up its European operations, it has been revealed.

The new Kent-based company, MAQL Europe, will focus on social and mobile gaming, and will be headed up by former Pure Entertainment CEO Harry Holmwood.

The new developer is currently in the process of setting up a team to focus on marketing, partnerships, development and localisation.

“Marvelous AQL have a compelling portfolio of social, mobile and console titles, with many more exciting products in the pipeline.” said Holmwood.

“I’m thrilled to be building a team to bring these to the European market, and to seek out the best developers in Europe to partner with for new products.”

Marvelous AQL was formed in 2011 as part of a merger between Japanese publishers Marvelous Entertainment, AQ interactive and social games developer Liveware.

Since then the company has developed and published games on a variety of platforms such as Three Kingdoms, KAIO: King of Pirates and Logres of Swords and Sorcery.
