Grammy-nominated Austin Wintory to score Kickstarter-funded title

Journey composer writing Leisure Suit Larry music

Austin Wintory will be writing the score for the new Kickstarter-funded Leisure Suit Larry game.

This is a major departure from is previous work with Thatgamecompany, which recently secured him a Grammy nomination for his Journey soundtrack.

"Al Lowe, the original creator, reached out to me a little while ago," Wintory told Polygon.

"The team that’s remaking it, Replay Games, they had been fans of Journey. It’s actually shocking that they would think to call me because they couldn’t be more opposite of each other."

Although this is a major shift in tone for the composer, Wintory says he has fond memories of the original series.

"That’s my era as a gamer growing up," Wintory said. "This was like a fantasy to work on a game like that."

Despite his nostalgia, Replay did feel the need to ask if he was comfortable writing this "seedy, back alley kind of stuff."

Wintory said he’d never written "sexy music" for games, but he has for films.

Wintory is also associated with another Kickstarter game, The Banner Saga.
