San Francisco developer starts off 2013 with a bang

Kabam acquires Exploding Barrel

Social game maker Kabam has opened the new year with the acquisition of Vancouver based Exploding Barrel.

Kabam set its sights on the studio, best known for MargaritaVille Online, due to its strong roots in core gaming.

The team of 30 developers including veterans of SSX and Need for Speed at Exploding Barrel will remain in Vancouver.

The studio is currently working on Blastron for iOS and two unannounced titles.

This is just the latest in a string of international acquisitions for Kabam, which tells Inside Social Gaming that it chose Exploding Barrel because it was an outstanding cultural fit for the company.

Kabam’s previous acquisitions include Balanced Worlds, WonderHill, Fearless Studios, Gravity Bear, and Wild Shadow Studios.
