Crowdfunded title set to be released in 2014

Kickstarter dev finds investor to finish Defense Grid 2

Hidden Path Entertainment has found an investor to help it finish Kickstarter-funded title Defense Grid 2.

Despite raising $270,000 through crowdfunding, $20k more than it had aimed for, the studio still required more investment to complete development of the title.

The initial campaign had warned backers that the money would initially fund Defense Grid: Containment, while donators would receive Defense Grid 2 at a later date once more investment had been found. This is despite calling the Kickstarter campaign Defense Grid 2.

As reported by Venturebeat, Hidden has now found an angel investor in the shape of entrepreneur Steven Dengler to complete the game’s development, although it has not said how much was raised.

Defense Grid 2 is currently set to be released in the first half of 2014.

The developer’s chief executive Jeff Pobst said that although the first game in the series had sold well, he hoped the sequel would generate more money.

“We did the original game, and it did well in unit sales but not great in dollars,” he said .

“With the sequel, we wanted the opportunity to work on a multiplatform game.”
