Casual specialist working on potential rival to Clash of Clans and Game of War

King developing its first mid-core mobile title

Candy Crush creator King looks set to take on mobile competitors Supercell and Machine Zone.

The studio has made its name on the back of its casual fare, including the Candy Crush series, Farm Heroes and AlphaBetty.

However, it is now working on a slightly tougher-edged title that could compete more directly with mid-core games such as Clash of Clans, Boom Beach and Game of War that lie in-between between the puzzle and hardcore strategy genres.

“As a company, we are now working on a mid-core title,” Tjodolf Sommestad, SVP for the Candy Crush franchise, revealed to MCV ahead of the launch of the latest Candy Crush spin-off, Jelly Saga.

“It’s an area that we are interested in but we have nothing to announce at this point.”
