E3'09: Metal Gear director collaborating with Spanish studio Mercury Steam

Kojima helming new Castlevania title

Hideo Kojima has never been coy about his desire to work with Western studios – and now he’s doing exactly that.

Kojima Productions will be collaborating with Spanish studio Mercury Steam, the developer of Clive Barker’s Jericho, on a new entry in the Castlevania series.

Kojima has previously worked with Canadian developer Silicon Knights on the GameCube title Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, a remake of his seminal PS1 classic.

It was also revealed by Famitsu that Kojima is working on three Metal Gear Solid titles: he’s designing, directing and producer the PSP title Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker; producing next-gen spin-off Metal Gear Solid Rising; and is involved in Metal Gear Arcade, an arcade version of Metal Gear Online.

[Industry news] Physical disc production ending in January 2028 for new games releasing on PlayStation consoles

"As consumer preferences and the broader entertainment industry continue to shift away from physical discs to digital, physical game disc production for all new games releasing on PlayStation consoles will be discontinued starting January 2028.  Following this date, new games will be available on PlayStation Store and at retailers in digital formats only. This transition has no impact on games that already released, or will be releasing, prior to January 2028 in disc format."
