PSP title Peace Walker was not being developed the way the MGS maestro had envisioned

Kojima returned to MGS work due to â??dev issuesâ??

Hideo Kojima has explained the circumstances surrounding his decision to continue working on Metal Gear Solid titles, stating that ‘development issues’ within the Peace Walker project had urged him to step in.

“I always said that [MGS4] would be the last Metal Gear in which I would be deeply involved,” he told IGN.

“However, when we started the PSP version, there was a lot of confusion within the team and it didn’t proceed as I wanted it to. Therefore I thought that I needed to jump in and do Peace Walker.”

For Nearly a decade Kojima has pledged to distance himself from Metal Gear projects and instead work on new concepts. He has so far – much to the delight of his fans – failed to keep to these promises.

Kojima Productions – a Konami-owned studio – is currently developing tech for its “next series” of games, which Kojima implied would remain tied to the Metal Gear universe.

“What’s happening in the team is that the next Metal Gear – or the next new series that Kojima Productions is going to create – we wanted to go one step ahead,” he said. “Therefore we need to actually restructure the engines, the tools and things like that.”

Kojima explained that building new tech has taken the team two years, and that Peace Walker was seen by the studio as a possible game to work on as the home-console tech was being renovated.
