Fox Engine revealed after three years of construction

Kojima team building new cross-platform engine

Kojima Productions, Konami’s Tokyo-based flagship studio, has revealed a new multiplatform engine for future projects.

The scratch-built Fox Engine has been in production since 2008, and is being finalised at a time of transition for the Metal Gear Solid developer.

“Up until now we’ve made games exclusively for certain platforms,” studio director Hideo Kojima said.

“For the future we want to build multiplatform games with global appeal.”

The engine will be the backdrop of an upcoming unannounced project, and Kojima-san hopes the tech will allow for shorter development time-frames.

It is not known if Konami will look to license the engine out to other studios.
