Studios partner to develop new series based on The Wheel of Time book series

KOTOR 2 dev Obsidian to assist Red Eagle

Distinguished Californian studio Obsidian Entertainment will be assisting neighbouring company Red Eagle on an upcoming project.

The RPG developer will help build a game based on Robert Jordan’s Fantasy Series The Wheel of Time.

"Although Red Eagle Games is both a game producer and publisher, as a new company, we quickly recognized that we could benefit from supplementing small in-house technical and creative teams with a proven third party developer," said Red Eagle COO Larry Mondragon.

Mondragon added that the alliance will improve the project’s quality while streamlining development costs.

Obsidian has previously worked on titles such as the 2004 hit Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, as well as Neverwinter Nights 2. The development outfit is currently building the multi-format title Alpha Protocol, and was chosen to work on Bethesda Softwork’s Fallout: New Vegas.

Red Eagle CEO Rick Selvage was delighted to announce the partnership deal.

“The development team at Obsidian Entertainment has demonstrated time and again that they can successfully blend storytelling with technology to craft a superior RPG game experience," he said.

"Obsidian Entertainment is the ideal development partner to help Red Eagle Games take Jordan’s beloved characters from the printed page to exciting new forms of interactive media."

And Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart returned the compliment, saying his studio was thrilled to be working with Red Eagle to develop a game based on The Wheel of Time literary saga.

“The Wheel of Time is a rich universe that lends itself to incredible gaming possibilities," he added.

Red Eagle – which formed back in 2006 – is looking to publish a range of titles on “all major platforms”, from home consoles to mobile devices.

Wheel of Time games will be distributed by the Electronic Arts.
