New outfit holds 45 staff, together working on two next-gen titles

Kuju opens new Czech studio

British superdev Kuju Entertainment has expanded its fleet of studios by opening a new outfit in the Czech Republic, GamesIndustry.biz reports.

The studio, known as Vatra, is reportedly working on two new projects for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. The outfit has secured “two projects for a high-profile publisher” and is aiming to expand its 45-strong workforce.

The developer is currently adopting the Unreal Engine, though studio head Matthew Seymour has implied that, looking ahead, engineering staff may build the outfit’s own proprietary engine.

"This is our hardcore, high-end action studio," said Kuju CEO Ian Baverstock. "They’re a very high quality studio."

The announcement continues six months of intermittent expansion and contraction for the independent development group.

Back in October Develop revealed that Kuju had expanded its studio profile to the Philippines, just a few months before the group announced staff cut backs.

Meanwhile, Kuju subsidiary Zoe Mode opened a San Francisco studio back in May, though shortly after rumours had arisen that Kuju’s Chemistry studio had closed.
