Film project hits $20,000 crowdfunding target with just one hour to spare

Last-gasp triumph for game documentary Kickstarter

A new documentary exploring the work and lives of games developers has hit Kickstarter targets against all odds after a dramatic eleventh-hour funding round.

The film, called ‘Us and the Game Industry’, hit its $20,000 target with just one hour remaining after struggling to build momentum across a thirty-day funding period.

Three days before deadline, the project had accumulated less than $7,000.

The crowdfunding initiative closed at $20,256 with 373 people backing the project. It appears that the final 100 backers had contributed more than $13,000 to the cause.

Us and the Game Industry features insight from the likes of Jenova Chen (thatgamecompany, pictured), Daniel Cook (Spry Fox) and indie dev Jason Rohrer.

The new trailer emerged weeks after a very similar game development documentary, called Indie Game: The Movie, won a Sundance Film Festival award and a standing ovation at a GDC screening.

“Us and the Game Industry is a film about the new thinkers at the new frontier of experimental computer game development,” reads the new film’s blurb.

“We delve into this untapped world of potential to meet the people who are succeeding in reinventing the medium of game design and challenging the established norms with their finely crafted work.”

The documentary has been previewed on video sharing site Vimeo.
