Last of Activision-Blizzard’s divestments to be announced soon

As we reported yesterday, the final buyer stepping up to acquire Activision Blizzard’s unwanted Vivendi Games assets is expected to be announced soon – with the buyer of Swordfish Birmingham specifically to be named shortly.

The news will round off a period of uncertainty that faced a number of projects and studios after the merged publisher announced it would ‘realign or divest’ unwanted parts of the business, left over after Vivendi Games bought Activision.

So far, Atari, THQ, Ubisoft and Monumental have stepped up to acquire the rights to games or studios from the large publisher. Atari has acquired the publishing rights to Ghostbusters and a new Riddick title, while THQ took on the 50 Cent title.

In terms of studios, Ubisoft this week bought Swedish outfit Massive and Monumental bought half of Swordfish.

At the same time, Develop understands that a number of titles Vivendi had commissioned (and some which it had even not announced at the time of its acquisition of Activision) have also been ‘rescued’ by other publishers, although details on those games are still to come as well.
