Leadwerks game engine comes to Ubuntu Software Center

Leadwerks has brought its Linux game development tools to the Ubuntu Software Center.

The game engine now allows developers to build and play their games without leaving the Ubuntu operating system. Leadwerks is designed for building 3D games and offers support for C++ and Lua programming. The tool also uses a royalty-free licence.

Last year the firm successfully crowdfunded development of native Linux tools on Kickstarter, raising $42,358, more than double its original target.

“Linux is where the really exciting developments are happening, on the desktop and in the living room,” said Leadwerks CEO Josh Klint.

“Leadwerks for Linux is designed to bring user-friendly game development to desktop Linux, and Ubuntu is the leader in this space, so it makes sense to focus our efforts there. Growing a community of Ubuntu game developers is our primary goal over the next 12 months.”
