Games can be developed and played solely within Linux environment

Leadwerks game engine gets Linux support on Steam

Linux support for the Leadwerks game engine has arrived on Steam.

Developers can now use the tool suite to build and play games within the Linux environment. The firm claims that, in most cases, games developed for Windows can also be played on the operating system with “no changes and no recompiling”.

Users who have Leadwerks for Windows already installed will get automatically receive the Linux build on their account.

The news is the culmination of a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter last year that raised $42,358 to develop the Linux game engine.

The 3D game development platform features a renderer built on OpenGL 4.0, built-in level design tools based on constructive solid geometry and supports Lua and C++ programming.
