Riot Games MMO being played by twice as many players compared to 2012

League of Legends attracts 67m players a month

League of Legends popularity is holding firm according to figures released by Riot Games that show 67 million users are playing it every month.

That figure is twice the number of users that we’re playing the fantasy MMO in 2012, which was 32 million.

Figures for daily plays are equally as strong, with 27 million players currently playing the game daily, compared to just over 12 million two years ago.

By comparison, Valve’s free-to-play MOBA DOTA 2 has just over 640,000 people playing today.

Over 7.5 million gamers now play League of Legends concurrently, compared with five million in March 2013.

Riot Games’ MMO has also be popular on the esports circuit. The third season of the League of Legends World Championships was watched by 32 million people, which makes it the most watched esports event in history.

The 2014 season of League of Legends began this month.
