Mobile giant allowing other devs to connect millions of players together

Machine Zone rebrands, shares Game of War cloud tech

Game of War: Fire Age developer Machine Zone has launched a new platform that will enable developers to use its proprietary cloud technology for massively multiplayer mobile titles.

The news comes as the studio reveals that it is rebranding itself as MZ, according to VentureBeat. It will also spin out its team supporting the new tool into a separate division.

MZ’s tech, RTplatform, builds on the same tools behind the hugely successful Game of War: Fire Age – which currently leads the mobile market with an average spend of $550 per year from paying users.

The cloud technology enables users to communicate and interact in real-time, with Game of War able to concurrently handle more than 1m players – plus all their messages and other communications – at once.

“Our new platform is 100 times bigger than that,” founder and CEO Gabe Leydon told VentureBeat. “It’s a new way of looking at real-time applications. I hope MZ and its legacy is to bring about the many-to-many Internet. The ultimate goal is putting everybody in the same place at once.”

Leydon also claimed RTplatform is more scalable than similar offerings from Google and Amazon, and that it is aimed at more than just games markers, with financial service firms and government institutions cited as potential customers.

RTplatform is currently available only by invitation. You can request an invitation at MZ’s website.
