WatchKit extension also added for devs building games for Apple Watch

Marmalade Platform updates adds iOS 3D Touch support

Marmalade Technologies has snuck a couple of handy new features into the latest update to its streamlined Platform.

Released just before Christmas, Marmalade Platform is a one-stop shop that gives developers access to all of the company’s key tools and services.

The new maintenance release – v8.2.1 – fixes a number of bugs and makes minor improvements, but it also adds support for iOS’ 3D Touch feature. Introduced with the iPhone 6S last year, this allows devs to detect how hard players are pressing their touch screen and create different in-game responses.

Marmalade Platform 8.2.1 also adds support for the WatchKit extension, which helps developers build games for Apple’s smartwatch.

You can find out more about the update in the full release notes.

[Industry news] Physical disc production ending in January 2028 for new games releasing on PlayStation consoles

"As consumer preferences and the broader entertainment industry continue to shift away from physical discs to digital, physical game disc production for all new games releasing on PlayStation consoles will be discontinued starting January 2028.  Following this date, new games will be available on PlayStation Store and at retailers in digital formats only. This transition has no impact on games that already released, or will be releasing, prior to January 2028 in disc format."
