User-interface tool key in drawing the player in, says de Fondaumière

Menus Master behind Heavy Rain â??immersiveâ?? UI

French tools company Omegame has revealed that its UI program – known as Menus Master – was licensed by Quantic Dream during the development of Heavy Rain.

Quantic Dream co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumière said that user interface was a key element in linking the player to the game.

“We wanted to immerse audiences emotionally in the story, make them care for the characters and what happens to them,” he said.

“We benchmarked different technologies available on the market, and finally selected Menus Master as it was the only solution providing both great artistic possibilities and easy integration within our in-house engine and tools.”

Menus Master is used by various game studios to design a variety of 2D and 3D user interfaces, including front-ends and heads-up displays. The tool allows for the construction of UIs though a mixture of multimedia resources, from 2D bitmaps to vector graphics, 3D objects, videos and sounds.
