$6.99 Pocket Edition comes in at number 31 behind Clash of Clans, Pokémon Go, Hearthstone and more

Minecraft is the only premium app in the US 50 top-grossing

Next Games’ exec producer Sulka Haro has proclaimed “Paid apps are truly dead” after spotting the poor performance of premium mobile games versus their free-to-play rivals.

The eagle-eyed developer tweeted his observation (via Gamasutra) that the best-selling title in App Annie’s US iOS App Store charts, currently Minecraft: Pocket Edition, placed at number 235 in the list of top-grossing games.

Looking at the rankings, it appears that the $6.99 Minecraft version actually comes in at number 31.

The five top grossing iOS games at the time of writing are Pokemon Go, Mobile Strike, Game of War, Candy Crush Saga and Clash of Clans.

Meanwhile, the paid Top Five is occupied by Minecraft, Heads Up!, Plague Inc, Reigns and Bloons TD 5.

Interestingly, Pokémon Go is the only free title to place in both the top-grossing Top Five and at the top of the most-downloaded Free app rankings.
