Indie hit has sold consistently since previous milestone in August

Minecraft PC passes eight million

Mojang’s indie hit Minecraft has surpassed eight million units sold on PC.

“The PC version of Minecraft just passed 8 million sales!” said creator Markus ‘Notch’ Persson on Twitter.

“My face is making grinning sounds, so I assume it’s grinning!”

It took less than three months for the game to move another million copies on its original platform nearly a year after its official launch, and over three years after its original release.

Minecraft has consistently achieved sales of a million copies every three months since May 2012, and it’s milestone looks set to continue.

Last month it was revealed that the Xbox Live Arcade version had been averaging sales of 27,000 a day, and has so far moved four million copies alone.
