Former head of mobile at online gambling company steps in at Minecraft developer

Mojang hires Jonas Mårtensson as new VP

Mojang has hired Jonas Mårtensson as its new vice president, the company has announced.

The studio founded by Minecraft creator Markus Persson recently launched its second game, scrolls, and has been busily expanding and updating both games.

A post from Mojang CEO Carl Manneh jokingly explained the decision to hire Mårtensson as a cloning experiment.

“A few months back I had a casual conversation in the office kitchen talking about the insane amount of things going on at Mojang,” wrote Manneh.

“I said something in the lines of ‘I wish I could clone myself’.I remember Tobias mumbling something like ‘I’ll look into that’.”

“Yesterday Tobias came back to me and said he had something to show me. Introducing Mojang’s new Vice President: Jonas Mårtensson!”

Develop can confirm that Mårtensson is not the result of a crazed experiment by a Swedish developer, but the former head of Mobile at online gambling company Betsson.

Though Mårtensson isn’t a clone he certainly qualifies as a döppelganger, bearing an uncanny resemblance to the Minecraft CEO.

“Sometimes it’s just nice to be able to clone yourself… or hire your twin brother,” said Manneh.
