Singstar and Guitar Hero wanted by UK's Official Charts Company

Music charts to count games DLC

Video games could shape the outcome of this year’s UK singles Christmas No.1.

The Official Charts Company has told Develop sister magazine MCV that it wants to see music games’ DLC sales counted in the music charts it compiles.

Provided a deal is thrashed out between publishers and format holders, music downloaded to play in the likes of Rock Band, Guitar Hero, SingStar and upcoming games like DJ Hero, will be combined with the current download charts.

The move would be further validation of the commercial power that downloadable content in games has today in comparison to retail revenues.
