Blizzard and Bigpoint add to a promising roster; early-bird deadline today

New wave of speakers for GDC Online

Blizzard and Bigpoint are the two latest companies to throw their weight behind the upcoming GDC Online event.

The World Of Warcraft studio will send its project director Greg Canessa to deliver a keynote lecture on building the Battle.net online facility.

Meanwhile, Bigpoint CEO Heiko Hubertz will deliver a business lecture on the untapped potential of the protracted and complex European game market.

The deadline for early bird rates is today, September 1st.

Hubertz and Canessa already add to a promising line-up for the US-based event.

Among others, Bungie will attend the show to discuss narrative, while Zynga will make a rare (now rarer) public appearance to discuss its latest world-beater FrontierVille.

And Playdom – Zynga’s social game rival and Disney’s latest acquisition – will also make a first public appearance since its buyout.

GDC Online runs from October 5th to 8th.

[Industry news] Physical disc production ending in January 2028 for new games releasing on PlayStation consoles

"As consumer preferences and the broader entertainment industry continue to shift away from physical discs to digital, physical game disc production for all new games releasing on PlayStation consoles will be discontinued starting January 2028.  Following this date, new games will be available on PlayStation Store and at retailers in digital formats only. This transition has no impact on games that already released, or will be releasing, prior to January 2028 in disc format."
