Studio planning a complete reimagining of classic sci-fi franchise

Night Dive Studios acquires System Shock rights

Vancouver-based developer Night Dive Studios has purchased the rights to the System Shock franchise.

The IP was previously owned by the Star Insurance Company, which acquired them from the original developer Looking Glass Studios. Now the series belongs to Night Dive, according to Polygon.

The studio has already had plenty of dealings with the series, having developed the Enhanced Edition of the original System Shock that launched earlier this year. Next, the team plans to develop a full remake that completely reimagines the sci-fi hit.

“We have been in contact with members of the original System Shock team and any future iterations of the System Shock games, and by this I mean both new titles in the series as well as major updates to the existing games, will be very true to the to the spirit of the originals,” said Night Dive CEO Stephen Kick.

System Shock famously not only led to an acclaimed sequel, but was also the inspiration for Irrational Games’ BioShock series.
