UK developer said to be exploring options amid mass staff cull

‘No layoffs for now’ at FreeStyleGames

Activision’s remaining UK studio, FreeStyleGames, is exploring several options with the publisher following its shock decision to axe 500 staff.

The Call Of Duty publisher last night dissolved its Guitar Hero business, cancelled a True Crime project and announced a major restructuring operation across its global infrastructure.

Before the announcement rumours were rife that FreeStyleGames was hit by redundancies.

That appears to not be the case, for now, with new information revealed in a statement from FreeStyleGames.

“We’re actively working with Activision on various options going forward for the studio,” said management from the London and Leamington Spa studios.

“No decisions have been taken at this stage. We appreciate everyone’s support through this process and will be as open and transparent as possible as soon as we know more,” the statement added, signed by David Osbourn, Jamie Jackson and Chris Lee.

Last month Develop revealed Activision was to close its Liverpool-based studio Bizarre Creations.

Activision announced GAAP revenues of $4.8 billion for the 2010 calendar year.
