Number of US summer camp game courses doubles

The number of game development programs at summer camps in the US has more than doubled since 2012, according to the Entertainment Software Association.

A new report by the organisation found that more than 100 camps across 26 states in the US would be offering nearly 700 programs in game design, development, programming and related topics this summer.

It stated that students typically enroll in one-to-two week courses that teach subjects such as art, animation, writing, music production, graphics programming, project management and marketing for pupils looking to learn more about the game industry.

“The increase in video game design summer programs reflects parents’ growing recognition of video games’ potential to excite kids about educational concepts,” said ESA VP for communications Rich Taylor.

“These programs not only offer students a fun opportunity to learn a range of techniques that prepare them for a promising career in the computer and video game industry, but also enhance comprehension of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) topics.”
