Virtual reality Kickstarter breaks past $1.8m

Oculus hires Dillon Seo to lead South Korea operations

Oculus has appointed ex-Scaleform business exec Dillon Seo as director of operations in South Korea.

The news comes as the virtual reality headset passes $1.8 million dollars raised with eight days remaining in its crowdfunding campaign, which has made a splash among developers who have longed for a workable solution for mass-market virtual reality.

Oculus Rift, designed by Palmer Luckey, has endorsements from John Carmack, Cliff Bleszinski, Gabe Newell, and even Marcus ‘Notch’ Persson, who personally donated $10,000 to the Kickstarter campaign.

Seo, formerly business director for Scaleform (founded by current Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe), will organize the company’s South Korean Office and coordinate with local developers interested in working with the new tech.

“South Korea is home to some of the world’s most talented game developers who are consistently innovating across genres,” said Iribe.

“Dillon, along with our new team based in Seoul, will allow Oculus to collaborate closely with top Korean developers to create completely new and totally immersive virtual reality experiences with the Rift. I’m thrilled to see what they make."

Seo will leave his current position as sales executive at Autodesk to head up the new office.

“I could not be more excited to join the Oculus team,” he said.

“Playing with the Rift has changed the way I think about gaming forever. I’m confident gamers and developers around the world will feel the same way when they try it for themselves."

"Opening an office here in Seoul means that South Korean game studios will always have fully localized technical support and a close partner in the development of amazing new virtual reality video games using Oculus technology.”
