New console on track for first post-Kickstarter launch

Ouya dev kits to ship this month

Ouya will meet its first major post-Kickstarter deadline, with developer kits officially scheduled to start shipping before the end of the month.

The team behind Ouya has announced kits for the Android-based console will begin shipping on December 28th. Ouya’s SDK should also be available online around the same time.

The date keeps with the December target promised as part of the effort’s Kickstarter campaign.

The company adds that its has a team specifically working on the console’s UI as well.

“We’ve also had a team focused on the user interface. This involves optimising Android Jelly Bean to play games on a big screen and spending time understanding the best ways gamers can search for and discover new games,” the official blog post read.

The console is scheduled to release in March 2013 for pre-orders, with a retail launch planned for the following month.
