Blitz Games CEO seeks substance in tax break promises

Philip Oliver: Weâ??re anxious for tax break details

Influential industry presence Philip Oliver told Develop that the UK game industry would applaud the government for today’s tax break announcement.

“Video games are the entertainment medium of the 21st Century. We strive to put the UK at the forefront of this global industry and continue to punch above our weight on the world stage,” he said.

“It is a wise investment that the government has made today and the whole of the UK industry applauds them for this decision.”

He went on to say that he was pleased to have been part of the team that lobbied for the tax breaks over the last few years.

“I’d like to think that my breakfast with Alastair Darling in July significantly helped, but really it was a team effort by many in the industry but particular tribute must be paid to Richard Wilson (TIGA), Ian Livingstone (EIDOS) & Michael Rawlinson (ELSPA) for their leadership and contributions,” he said.

“Clearly we are anxious to see the details when we can comment further,” he added.
