â??I could make the entire PixelJunk series with the EA bossâ??s income bonusâ?

Q-Gamesâ?? Cuthbert: game funding model â??brokenâ??

The founder of a leading independent Japanese studio believes that the current game investment model is “broken”.

Dylan Cuthbert, whose studio Q-Games develops the PixelJunk series, said in today’s Develop FAQ that the games investment system needs to be put under review.

“The model of games funding at the moment is fundamentally broken and biased towards making publishers stinking rich,” he said.

On the subject of game budgets itself, Cuthbert went on to make a strong prediction:

“Just look at the bonuses and wages of execs at EA for example, I could make the entire PixelJunk series, including series 2, two or three times over on the EA boss’s income bonus.”
