Job ads point to Microsoft-owned studio moving to embrace tablet and mobile game making

Rare hiring for Windows 8 mobile development

A pair of job listings reveal that Rare is looking to recruit for a number of positions on a yet-to-be announced Windows 8 development team, which appears to have a focus on mobile and tablet games.

As reported by CVG, a 2D UI artist posting reveals the Microsoft-owned studio’s intent with portable platforms.

"We are continuing to evolve and push the boundaries of innovation in entertainment with some amazing new projects and are looking for a 2D Artist to join our team, to create amazing art for Win 8 mobile and tablet devices," reads the posting.

A second posting for a lead game designer explicitly describes a ‘Windows 8 development team’.

Rare itself has made no announcement of its plans for Windows 8 and mobile – or detailed if there will be any impact on console game making. Develop has contacted Rare for more information, so stay tuned.
