Develop '09: Studio hints at its future plans for NXE

Rare ‘very excited’ about using Avatars with Natal

Speaking at the Develop Conference 2009, employees from Rare have been speaking about their future plans for the New Xbox Experience Avatars, which they created for Microsoft.

"We have lots of ideas for the future of Avatars," said Louise Ridgeway, head of animation at Rare. "There’s going to be more clothing and more games and accessories, and a lot more new ideas using what we have created. We’re very excited by thinking about how Avatars will work with Natal, too."

Ridgeway, who was joined on stage by Rare’s art director Stephen Mcfarlane, spoke at a session that detailed the entire production process creating the NXE Avatars.

Mcfarlane also discussed how Rare will make use of its time spent on avatars when creating future games: "We’ve gone along for many years doing certain games in a certain way. Now we’ve learnt more about how to work to a fixed deadline, and be more streamlined. Really, Avatars have taught us to be more efficient as a studio, and that’s going to help us vastly moving forward."
