Financing round boosts casual games firm's plans for community-driven titles

Rebel Monkey raises $1m

New York-based Rebel Monkey has raised $1m in investment capital from VC firm Redpoint Ventures.

New York-based Rebel Monkey was co-founded last year by game industry vets Margaret Wallace, whose past ventures include Skunk Studios in San Francisco, and Nick Fortugno, who was lead designer of the original Diner Dash game.

"Rebel Monkey is on the brink of becoming a powerhouse in the casual games industry," said Fouad ElNaggar, principal with Redpoint Ventures. "Given Margaret and Nick’s combined experience in business and design, they are positioning Rebel Monkey to be on the leading edge of connected casual gaming."

The firm has not announced its first game but previously said it plans to evolve casual games with community features.
