Former Oracle VP of server tech to help burgeoning MMO firm

Red 5 appoints engineering VP

Red 5 Studios, the MMO outfit formed by former World of Warcraft team leads, has appointed former Oracle VP Michael Weingarner as its engineering VP.

Weingartner previously led the development of key enterprise server solutions at Oracle as their VP of server technology. At Red 5 he expects to ‘break new ground in applying his experience with server systems to a brand new, innovative MMO’.

"Our new programming talent comes from diverse backgrounds, bringing a wealth of tech experience to the Red 5 tribe," said Mark Kern, president and CEO of Red 5 Studios. "The team is almost complete, and every member has the passion to create something amazing – great games come from great collaboration, and the potential is thrilling."

Added Weingarner: "There are intriguing parallels between building an innovative MMO server system and the work I was able to accomplish at Oracle. I’ve been influenced by a number of hit games, including the Tribes series, StarCraft, and Dark Age of Camelot. Combining my past technological experience with my passion for gaming is something I’ve wanted to do for years, and at Red 5, I have the opportunity."
