Report: Microsoft announcing Mojang acquisition today

Microsoft could be set to reveal its acquisition of Minecraft developer Mojang today, according to a report.

Reuters cites a source briefed on the matter as stating the computing giant will announce a $2.5 billion purchase of the Swedish studio. The claims come after Bloomberg also suggested the deal could be closed this week.

It’s the latest report to claim that Microsoft is in negotiations to buy the developer, which are said to have been initiated by studio founder and Minecraft creator Marcus Persson himself.

It is also believed that Persson will pocket 70 per cent of the money from any acquisition due to his majority stake in the studio.
