PS4 'has a run-capability' of 1.84 teraflops compared to the next Xbox's 1.23 teraflops

Report: PS4 50% more powerful than next Xbox

The PS4 will be 50 per cent more powerful than the next Xbox in terms of raw power, according to a report.

Developers have allegedly told VG247 that the PS4 will have a run-capability of 1.84 teraflops, while the next Xbox will have 1.23 teraflops.

Despite more computational power, the next Xbox is said to have significantly more RAM than the PS4.

The PS4 will apparently have 4gb of RAM, 1GB of which will be reserved for the operating system, security and apps, while the next Xbox will house 8gb of RAM, with four-to-five gb left over for running games.

Both next-gen consoles however will be able to read 100gb blu-ray discs.

The report also states that the PS4 will be based on AMD’s A10 APU, while the next Xbox will be built on the Radeon HD 8770 GPU.

The rumour mill on the potential capabilities of Sony and Microsoft’s next-generation consoles has gone into overdrive this year, ahead of what is expected to be a huge E3 reveal for the industry giants.

It is expected however that both companies will likely reveal initial details on the new systems prior to the event, with another report suggesting Sony and Microsoft will hold special “Apple-style” events near the Game Developers Conference in March to announce the platforms.
